On a night were
most fight fans
were tuning in
to see the
heavyweight
match-up between
Rahman versus
Toney on HBO,
twelve hundred
spectators were
on hand at the
Convention
Center in Fort
Smith, Arkansas
to witness an
all out slug
fest of the big
boys.
Stacy
Goodson’s Slug
Out Productions
handed the crowd
on hand a
heavyweight
showdown that
featured a slew
of knockouts and
entertaining
bouts galore
with the heavy
handers of the
division laying
the leather
handing out a
heaping helping
of hurting for
all ringside
fans.
Shannon The
Cannon Briggs
46-4-1 (40
KO’s) extended
his string of
knockout
victories to ten
with a
devastating
fourth round
knock out
victory over a
very much game
Dickey Ryan 55-9
(44 KOs) in
the main event.
A fight that
Briggs told the
Doghouse that he
thought he could
end it with one
punch but
knowing Ryan
from the old
days knew that
it may not be
that simple.
Ryan was a
trooper
absorbing
massive
punishment from
the beginning of
the fight,
taking heat from
the heavyweight
contender from
every angle
eating shot
after shot and
tasting canvas
in round two. 'The
Cannon' was over
heard telling
Ryan between
rounds two and
three that it
was the last
round as he was
making his way
to his corner
for a break, but
after more
punishment in
the third round
and a low blow
from the Raging
Bull who took
on more pain
Shannon ended
the night with a
sick right hand
that sent Ryan
down and out in
the neutral
corner. The
punch was
vicious one and
it most
defiantly
painful to watch
ringside as Ryan
lay with head on
the ropes with
his legs tucked
up under his
body as if he
was lifeless as
the doctors came
to his side.
Happy for the W
you could still
see a look of
concern in
Shannon’s eyes
as he made his
way to check on
his defeated
opponent
assuring him he
was all right.
Ten minutes on
the canvas and
it was declared
Ryan was ok as
the crowd
clapped on out
of respect.
Briggs told the
Doghouse that he
was glad to know
that Ryan was ok
and that he was
a much tougher
fight than
expected, and
offered up an
excessive amount
of respect for
Ryan during the
post fight
interview
process.
Whats next
for Briggs who
earned the
vacant USBA,
NABA and WBO
NABO heavyweight
titles. Shannon
told the
Doghouse that he
felt he had two
more fights left
before he gets a
title shot, and
stated that a
proposed fight
with Lou
Savarese in New
York would most
certainly be a
crowd pleaser.
JD The
Natural
Chapman 21-0 (19
KO’s) remain
undefeated with
a slight
thrashing of his
fellow Arkansan
rival Marvin Skip Hill
19-10 (15
KOs) in a
scheduled bout
for Chapman’s
Arkansas State
Heavyweight
title.
Chapman came out
using his jab
rocking and
dropping “The
River City
Raider” in
both rounds of
the fight, but
at times seemed
a bit held back
with the long
friendship of
the two and
didn’t go all
out at times but
for the most
part took care
of business and
did what had to
be done to gain
another victory.
Hills corner
had seen enough
punishment on
their fighter
and called it a
night in between
rounds two and
three making it
official as a
second round TKO
at the three
minute mark.
The 6'6
twenty-three
year old
Mansfield,
Arkansas native
has defeated all
in his pathway
and Chapman is
getting better
in each go
around looking
to make some
serious noise in
the near future.
BRIGGS
KEEPS KNOCKIN... EM
OUT!
By Laz Izada.
InsideBoxing.com
Fort Smith, AR (Insideboxing.com,
March 19, 2006) - The
action took place this
past Saturday night at
Stacy Goodson’s
“Heavyweight
Slug-Out 2” in the
main event.
Reborn,
reestablished, KO
artist, heavyweight
top 10 contender, WBC
#8, WBO #8, IBF #10,
Shannon Briggs,
46-4-1(40 KO’s)
scored his 10th KO in
a row over veteran
Dicky Ryan, 55-9 (44
KO’s). Briggs, who
always comes in
“looking for a
knockout“, knocked
Ryan down in the 2nd
round with a strong
left hook, and then
took him down for good
at 2:37 of the 4th
round with a powerful
right hand shot. Ryan
was laid out on the
canvas for a scary 10
minutes.
The impressive
knockout was the 40th
of Briggs career and
was for the major
ranking organizations
North American titles.
The WBA’s NABA, and
the WBO’s NABO
titles. The bout was
also for a NABF
Heavyweight eliminator
making Briggs eligible
to take on the winner
of the April 28th
showdown between
Samuel Peter, 25-1(21
KO’s), and 7 foot
tall Julius Long, 14-7
(12 KO’s). Briggs
has been after Peter
since last year and
might finally get his
shot against him.
Peter is the only top
10 ranked contender
willing to take on
Briggs, for the time
being. Before that
bout takes place,
Scott Hirsh, Briggs’
energetic manager,
tells me that he will
be taking on Chris
Koval, 23-2 (18
KO’s), for the
vacant USBA North
American Heavyweight
title. Sometime in
May, Briggs will also
be defending his new
belts. If all goes
well and according to
plan, I believe that
Briggs and Peter
should be settling
their score by late
summer or early fall.
If
Peter comes in to
fight aggressively
like he did in last
years loss to Wladimir
Klitschko, it should
make a very exciting
fight, not the snoozer
of Toney vs. Raham
that fans witnessed
this past weekend.
Briggs
wants his fans and all
boxing fans to know
that he isn’t
playing around and
that he “puts it on
the line every time
out, that he is
looking for a knockout
every time out, and
that is what fight
fans are looking
for.”
How
true that is,
especially knockout
excitement in the
heavyweight division.
All fight fans
remember Tyson’s 19
KO’s in a row.
Briggs now has 10 in a
row, but unfortunately
he’s not getting the
TV coverage and all of
the notoriety that he
should be getting.
Hopefully all that
will soon change.
Briggs’ new
milestone of 40 KO’s
puts him in good
company, here is the
rundown.

According to this KO
rundown, a Briggs, W.
Klitschko, or
Brewester match up
would be intriguing.
Right now Briggs, the
Comeback Fighter of
the Year for 2005, is
taking one fight and
one KO at a time.
Hirsh plans to keep
him busy. Let’s just
hope that top 10
contenders and title
holders don’t run
from him and “put
things on the line”.
Fight fans deserve,
and the heavyweight
division desperately
needs 2 heavyweights
slugging it out
looking for a
knockout. We have one
in Shannon Briggs,
let’s see which
other heavyweight
steps up to the plate.
March
18th at the Convention
Center in Fort Smith,
Arkansas twenty-four
hungry fighters from
around the US will step in
the ring to square off in
an twelve-card bash that
will surely entertain the
crowd on hand.
The main event will
feature the hard-hitting
heavyweight contender
Shannon "The
Cannon" Briggs 45-4-1
(39 KO's) who is steadily
climbing the heavyweight
ladder with the top spot
in his grasp. Briggs has
banged out nine straight
KO victories in a
three-year span that
includes Wins over Abraham
Okine (3rd R. TKO), Ray
Mercer (7th R. KO), and
just recently a sixteen
second first round blow
out over Luciano Zolyone
to win the vacant WBC
Fecarbox Heavyweight
title.
Briggs will be facing
another hard hitter when
he stares down "The
Raging Bull" Dicky
Ryan 55-8 (44 KO's) in a
twelve
round clash for the USBA,
NABA and WBO NABO vacant
heavyweight straps.
Ryan is a
nineteen-year-old schooled
vet who has faced off
against the likes of
Vitali Klitschko, Timo
Hoffman, Brian Nielson and
Nikolay Valuev and will
offer up a heated scrap in
his upcoming bout against
Briggs.
The co-main event will
feature a cross town rival
when the undefeated
heavyweight sensation JD.
Chapman 20-0 (18 KO's)
gets in the ring with the
thirty-fight veteran
Marvin Hill for an all out
throw down.
Chapman has came on strong
since turning pro in 2002
beating all in his pathway
earning the Arkansas
State, the vacant IBF/USBA
Southern Regional and NABC
heavyweight titles in his
march for the top. Hill is
a thirteen-year vet who
has shared the ring with
Dominick Guinn, Tye Fields
and Shannon Briggs offers
up strength and experience
that will put the younger
Chapman to the test.
Friends or not these two
are ready for war!

Florida-based
businessman Scott Hirsch and
his World Class Boxing
Management, Inc.,
proudly announces the
signing of Cuban
heavyweight/cruiserweight
contender Eliseo Castillo,
18-1-1 (14 KOs) to a
management contract.
After
a year of inactivity, Eliseo
will be jumping right back
into the sport, but now he'll
be campaigning exclusively
at cruiserweight, explains
Hirsch. His first fight is
scheduled for February 25
against Chris Lewallen, 9-2
(9 KOs), in Oklahoma City,
Oklahoma on the undercard of
JD Chapman vs. Tommy
Connelly. He will also be
fighting Benito Fernandez
for the WBO and WBC Latino
Cruiserweight titles on
March 24 in Miami at the
Miccosukee Gaming, promoted
by All Star Boxing
Promotions.
Castillo was an accomplished
amateur and a product of the
Cuban State Boxing Program.
The 30 year old travelled
over 90 miles on a raft to
get to the USA and a new
life. He turned professional
under the Team Freedom
umbrella of fighters in
1996.
The
6'2 right hander holds a
victory over former world
heavyweight champion Michael
Moorer via a nationally
televised ten-round
decision. However, in his
last fight, he suffered his
only loss, via TKO 4 to
former WBO champion Wladimir
Klitschko in Dortmund,
Germany.
Hirsch
has done an excellent job of
rejuvenating the career of
former linear heavyweight
champion Shannon Briggs
(currently rated #8 by both
the WBO And WBC) and kick
starting the career of
up-and-coming knockout
artist JD "The
Natural" Chapman
(19-0 [17 KOs]).
Overall
in 2005, his clients went a
combined 16-0.
Hirsch
says Castillo is not coming
back to waste any time. He's
sending an open challenge to
all the world's
cruiserweights. Anywhere,
any time. After ten years
with long stretches of
inactivity, Eliseo Castillo
is ready to reach his
full potential and he'll go
through anyone he has to, to
do it.

heavyweight contender, Shannon

fight for the NABA and USBA
Heavyweight Championships against
Chris “Special K” Koval, 23-2 (18
KOs), is being moved to Oklahoma
City, Oklahoma
on February 25. Originally slated
for January 27, an ankle injury
suffered last week by Briggs forced
the rescheduling. Additionally, if
all goes according to plan, also
appearing that night will be power
punching heavyweight prospect JD
“The Natural” Chapman, 19-0 (17
KOs), who will face fellow Arkansas
native Tommy "Concrete" Connelly,
15-7
(11 KOs), in a twelve-round
showdown.
Chapman must
first win his February 4 fight at the
Pope County Fairgrounds in Russellville,
Arkansas against Marvin Hill for the
NABC and Arkansas State Heavyweight
Titles. Promoter CKrush Sports and
manager Scott Hirsch are currently
finalizing the details.

Briggs
KOs Zolyone in :16!
Heavyweight
contender Shannon Briggs (45-4-1, 39
KOs needed just 16 seconds to
knock out previously unbeaten
Luciano Zolyone (22-1-1, 21 KOs)
Saturday night at the
Coliseo Roberto Clemente, San Juan,
Puerto Rico. Briggs connected with
the first right
hand he threw and the bout was over.
The time included the ten-second
count-out.
Briggs says hes ready for the kinds
of fights that will make him
champion again. Briggs
wants to prove his superiority by
taking on a fighter that few
heavyweights would dare to face.
Sam
Peter is strong and aggressive, but
there are a lot of flaws I could
expose in him because hes still raw,
explains the former linear world
champion. He might hit hard, but so
do I. And I’ve fought three world
champions and three Olympic gold
medallists; Sam Peter has only had
one real fight and you know what
happened (Peter lost a decision to
former WBO champion Wladimir
Klitschko). I have no fear of him.
We got turned down by Calvin Brock,
and David Tua, so we reached out to
his promoter, Cedric Kushner, and
said we needed a major fight says
Briggs manager, Scott Hirsch. They
asked if Shannon would be willing to
fight Samuel Peter and he said am I
willing? Id love it!
I
know it is going to be a tough
fight, continued Hirsch, but were
looking for tough fights. Shannon
was clearly the Comeback Fighter of
the Year in 2005 and he'll be the
World Heavyweight Champion in
2006."
So
far, all the parties involved have
expressed interest. Dino Duva wants
the fight, my promoter Cedric
Kushner wants the fight, my manager
Scott Hirsch wants it, Sam Peter and
his manager want the fight, so lets
do it. Id love to fight him in
Madison Square Garden, or Atlantic
City, or Vegas, but it really doesnt
matter, Ill fight him anywhere.
Though
he has insisted all along that he
could beat him, after attending
Peters last two fights, Briggs is
now shouting for a chance to prove
it. “Im going to take him to
school and teach Sam Peter a lesson
I was at his fight with Wlad and I
was front row for Peter vs. Hawkins.
He made a lot of mistakes in those
fights that he won’t be able to
make against me.
I feel like a stalker. I guess I am.
Im stalking Sam Peter and soon I'm
gonna get him.
While
Hirsch says they are hoping for the
Peter fight to materialize, Team
Briggs plans to stay busy,
regardless. They are currently
negotiating for a fight in late
January. Briggs fought five times in
2005, scoring five knockouts against
opponents who were a combined 102
wins and 16 losses.
Briggs
Scores KO at Slug-Out
All
the big names came away with knockout
victories tonight at the All-Heavyweight
Slug-Out event in Fort Smith, Arkansas. In
the main event, former linear heavyweight
champion Shannon Briggs, 44-4- 1 (38 KOs),
scored a first-round knockout over Brian
Scott, 25-7 (16 KOs).
Coming in at the lowest weight, thus far,
in his comeback (254 lbs), Briggs hit
Scott with a hard body shot, followed by a
left hook/right hand to the head that
dropped Scott and caused a severe
laceration. Scott rose, but a follow-up
right hand finished the job.
To the delight of his 2000 fans in
attendance, Arkansas native JD 'The
Natural' Chapman moved his record to
18-0 (17 KOs) by scoring an impressive TKO
2 over now 14-2 (12 KOs) New Yorker John
Carlo. Chapman’s long right hand had
Carlo down in the first and then
again
in the second. (read

knocking out Ray Mercer at 0:41 of the
